Exchanging a foreign driving license in China can be a complex process, as the regulations and requirements can vary depending on the country of issuance. Generally, the steps involved in exchanging a foreign driving license for a Chinese one include:
1. Translation: You must have your foreign driving license translated into Chinese by a certified translation service which can be done at any motor vehicle traffic control department.
2. Documentation: Prepare the necessary documents, such as your passport, residence permit, and translated driving license.
3. Application: Visit the local Vehicle Management Office to submit your application for exchanging your foreign driving license.
4. Written Tests: you will be required to take written tests in China. You will be issued a soft copy of the document to self-study and given a date for the test, usually 1 week.
5. Fees: Be prepared to pay the required fees for the exchange process.
6. Going back for the test: the test is computerized and you will know immediately after the test if you passed or failed. In case you fail, you have a chance to retake the test twice. If you pass you will immediately go for the eyesight test which is done on site.
7. Issuance of driving license: You will be able to go home with your driving license on the same day. Valid for 6 years, after which it will be renewed with a validity period of 10 years.
Thank you. Hoping to get mine this year and this is all really helpful.
